Hermia - Original Artwork - 205mm x 295mm

A romantic and contemporary portrait of Hermia, inspired by Shakespeare, classical beauty and the complexities of love.

This original portrait of Hermia was hand-drawn and coloured using pencil, capturing the character's quiet strength and determination. Expressive lines and delicate details create a thoughtful interpretation of one of the central figures in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I have always been fascinated by literature, mythology and the way characters have continued to inspire artists throughout history. Hermia is a particularly interesting character to reinterpret - caught between love, friendship and expectation, she is determined to follow her own heart despite the obstacles placed in her way.

The combination of traditional drawing techniques and a contemporary approach is intended to make the piece feel both timeless and unexpected.

Inspired by Shakespeare, classical art, literature and the characters that have captured the imagination across generations, this artwork is part of an ongoing collection exploring stories and figures from different eras and traditions.
