A mysterious and contemporary portrait of Oberon, inspired by the magic and mythology of the natural world.
This original portrait of Oberon was hand-drawn using pencil, with striking red and blue tones adding colour, depth and atmosphere to the piece. The expressive marks and contrasting palette create a characterful interpretation of the legendary king of the fairies.
I have always been fascinated by mythology, folklore and the way stories and characters have been reimagined by artists throughout history. Oberon is a particularly intriguing figure - most famously known as the king of the fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, but also appearing in earlier European folklore and literature.
The combination of traditional drawing techniques and bold contemporary colour is intended to make the piece feel both timeless and unexpected.
Inspired by literature, folklore, classical art and mythology, this artwork is part of an ongoing collection exploring the characters and stories that have captured the imagination across generations.
